Carrie Gilbert | “Bee-sides and Rarities”
This media file is attached to: 1st Annual One College Virtual Art Student Exhibition
This piece explores the contradictions between how glyphosate-based products are marketed ("your backyard can be an idyllic slice of nature!") and the reality of the effects it has on the environment, most notably the bee population. The background monotype was created using a Gelli plate. The bee and and Roundup bottle are carved relief stamps. The negative space representing the bee's absence is simply a stencil placed on top of the stamp in the final impression.
