Juan Cervantes | “Selena: La Reina de Tex-Mex”

This is a piece I created for my painting one assignment. I chose to honor one of my favorite musicians, Selena Quintanilla. I adore her music and personality. I also admire that she overcame numerous challenges with style and authenticity. I used the rose, Selena’s favorite flower, as the background to make the painting more meaningful. The rose represents a reoccurring dream that Selena reportedly had before she was killed. A fan throws a white rose to the star, but she doesn’t see or catch it, much like in her dream. I used canvas, acrylic paints, pens, and a Sharpie.
