Nature and Scope of Work

The Women’s Resource Center Coordinator provides coordination of the day-to-day activities in the Women’s Resource Center, which supports the education and development of all students with particular attention to the needs of women; and oversees support programs for single parents and displaced homemakers.  The Coordinator may also provide support for Perkins related activities for special populations.

Principal Accountabilities (includes some or all of the following)

  1. Coordinates the day-to-day activities in the Women’s Resource Center; works with student leaders to design and implement programs, special events, and services that support student success and development.
  2. Coordinates the delivery of information and assistance to students seeking support through the Women’s Resource Center, (for example, referrals to community resources providing child care and transportation information, clothing donations, crisis intervention, case management, scholarship workshops, writing labs, and networking with professional and community organizations that support nontraditional employment, and other services).
  3. Coordinates recruitment, orientation, and enrollment of students in support programs for single parents/displaced homemakers.  Oversees learning activities and retention strategies for students served by the program.
  4. Plans, implements, and monitors budget expenditures for the Women’s Resource Center and programs for single parents/displaced homemakers in cooperation with the supervisor.
  5. Initiates and coordinates the development of grant proposals and solicits donations that support the goals of the Women’s Resource Center; oversee implementation of grants awarded.
  6. May develop and deliver classroom instruction to the single parent/displaced homemaker program students.
  7. Provides re-entry services, information, and assistance to single parents, displaced homemakers, and adults returning to college.
  8. Develops retention strategies and provides case management for program participants who matriculate to regular college classes.
  9. Serves as a liaison to community and regional organizations that can contribute to the goals of the Women’s Resource Center and/or Perkins funded activities (for example, Project Network/New Directions Community Advisory Board, Portlandia).
  10. Assists staff in designing materials to support success in required program course.
  11. Provides additional case management/advising as needed.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an office and classroom environment.  Occasional evening and weekend hours required.

Physical Requirements

Most job time spent witting with occasional walking, lifting, and guiding, and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Science or related area. Relevant experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Positions that teach credit courses may also be required to meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science, counseling or other related field required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a post-secondary environment coordinating student program and support services for disadvantaged and/or women students.  Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population.
