Job Summary
Under the direction of a manager, performs routine maintenance and repair of PCC parking lots, roadways and parking garages. Incumbent responds to the Transportation Supervisor to cover shifts for bus operators. The position has lead responsibilities over the Transit Service Operators and Van Drivers.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains PCC parking lots ensuring stalls, curbs, crosswalks, directional arrows, and other traffic signs are clearly marked and performs necessary painting.
- Leads, directs, guides and monitors the work of Transit Service Operators, Van Drivers and casual relief drivers. Responds to requests for assistance by troubleshooting and providing solutions to driver-related problems. Assesses training needs and facilitates on-going training to ensure maximum effectiveness. Orients staff to department policies and procedures. Provides input on staff evaluations.
- Installs, repairs, and replaces PCC roadway and parking signage, bicycle racks, department owned electric vehicle charging stations and parking permit dispensers. Installs thermoplastic markings as needed.
- Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of department buses including pressure washing of vehicles.
- Drives buses to various locations within PCC for repairs and when needed for coverage.
- Works closely with manager to budget for projects and larger bus related repairs.
- Functions as point of contact for bus maintenance problems.
- Keeps shop equipment in safe, operating condition.
- Acts as back up driver, as needed.
- Maintains parking garage at Cascade campus ensuring lights are replaced, garage is clean and correct signage is in place.
- Maintains applicable Material Safety Data Sheets.
- May deliver buses for maintenance services.
- May be called upon to remove biohazardous material.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes. Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. while performing job duties. Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials. Work schedule may include weekend hours. Â Operates heavy and/or light motorized equipment and uses power and hand tools.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of experience in basic facilities, construction or repair experience in a commercial or industrial setting, including one year of lead experience. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement for operation of motor vehicles within the State of Oregon or Washington and have an acceptable driving record.
