Adding special access to a quiz
You can easily create special access to a quiz for one or more students, like a longer time limit or a different start and/or end date than the rest of the class or granting access to a quiz for only some specific students
- What is required: A D2L Brightspace course and a quiz
Special Access
You have 3 different options to grant special access to students. Option 1 is the default and most commonly used to provide students with special access to the quiz with longer time limit or different date access than the rest of the class.

Option 1: Allow some students to have special access
Use this option to provide some students special quiz accommodations and still allow the rest of the class to access the quiz normally:
- Click on Quizzes from the course navbar
- Find the quiz you want to provide special access to, click the quiz action menu and select Edit
- Click on the Availability Dates & Conditions drop-down list
- Scroll to the Special Access heading and click Manage Special Access. A new window will pop-up.
- Select Allow selected users special access to this quiz
- Click the Add Users to Special Access button
- Make any date and/or time adjustments for special access
- To allow individual students earlier access to the quiz, select “Has Start Date.” Then, change the start date
- To allow individual students later access to the Quiz, select “Has Due Date” or “Has End Date.” Then, change the due date or end date
Note: When you add start and end dates, students can see the quiz, but they cannot take it outside that date range. When you add a due date, it serves as a reference only; students can still take the quiz after the due date. - To allow individual students more time to take a quiz, check the box next to “Recommend time limit” or “Enforced time limit,” and enter a number in the “minute(s)” field
Note: Depending upon your choice, you will be given different timing options- Recommended Time Limit: The student sees a countdown clock, but the time is not enforced
- Enforced Time Limit: The student has a set amount of time to take the quiz
- To allow individual students a different number of attempts in the quiz, check the box next to “Override attempts allow” and choose a number from the drop-down menu below. Then select Apply
- Check the box for the student(s) you wish to grant special access
- Click Save. This will bring you back to the pop-up window which will display a summary of the settings:
- Click on the Edit (pencil) icon to the right of the summary to make changes
- Click on the Delete (X) icon to the right of the summary window to delete the special access
- Repeat the process to make other accommodations if needed
- Click the Save and Close button

Use this option if you want only some students to see and take a quiz and block access to that quiz for the rest of the class:

Note: When you add start and end dates, students can see the quiz, but they cannot take it outside that date range. When you add a due date, it serves as a reference only; students can still take the quiz after the due date. - To allow individual students more time to take a quiz, check the box next to “Recommend time limit” or “Enforced time limit,” and enter a number in the “minute(s)” field
