Using media in your course
Using media is a great way to enhance your course and increase student engagement. Check out the sessions below to get started.
- Lecture Capture for In-Person Classes: We will cover how you can use Zoom and the standard classroom podium to capture your in-person lectures. Lecture capture can be an important retention tool for students who are unable to attend class due to COVID-19 protocols or other life events. Make recordings of your class and publish recordings of your lectures in Brightspace D2L (lecture capture using Zoom guide).
- Engaging Students in Zoom (1hr 28min): We will show you a variety of tools and features, and provide examples of how you can use them on your own to increase student presence, engagement, and collaboration online in remote synchronous modalities. Some tools and features we will present will include Spotlight, Chat, Non-verbal feedback, Meeting reactions, Virtual backgrounds, Photo Profile, Annotation, Whiteboard, and Polling (session slides and session resource links).
- Creating your First YouTube Lesson: Learn the basics of filming and publishing your own video lessons on YouTube with no editing or special equipment (materials & resources).
- Creating Media for your Course: Learn how to use Videonote and Kaltura Capture Space, two simple tools within D2L Brightspace.
- Finding Media for your Course: Explore the various instructional media resources that are already available for you to use within your course immediately (materials & resources).
- Creative Solutions for Delivering Course Content: Learn how to use a phone, whiteboard, iPad, tablet, and other connected devices to deliver content and demonstrate something live for students.
