ENNL – (English as a Non-Native Language) Instructor Requirements Prior to April 2011
The following qualification for full and part-time faculty in ENNL were approved on September 11, 1995 by the ENNL SACC:
A Master’s degree in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) from an accredited college or university,
OR
A Master’s degree in a related field (such as foreign language, speech, anthropology, or education) and a TESOL Certificate or substantial coursework in TESOL methodology from an accredited institute, college or university,
OR
A Master’s degree in a related field, proficiency in a foreign language and five years experience teaching ESL in a formal classroom, at least two years of which should be teaching academic English to adults. Preferred: At least two years teaching English at the college level to speakers of other languages.
The following qualifications for full and part-time faculty in ENNL were amended on April 14, 2000 by the ENNL SACC:
A master’s degree in TESOL from an accredited college or university,
OR
A Master’s degree in a related field (such as foreign language, linguistics, speech, anthropology, education or other fields upon SACC approval) and a TESOL Certificate or substantial coursework in TESOL methodology form an accredited institute, college or university,
OR
A Master’s degree in a related field, proficiency in a foreign language, and five years experience in teaching ESL in a formal classroom, at least two years of which should be teaching academic English to adults. Preferred: At least two years experience teaching English at the college level to speakers of other languages.

ENNL – (English as a Non-Native Language) Instructor Requirements
Master’s Degree in TESOL from an accredited college or university or Master’s degree in a related field (such as foreign language, speech, anthropology, or education) and either a TESOL certificate or substantial course work in TESOL methodology from an accredited college or university or Master’s degree in a related field, proficiency in a foreign language and five years experience teaching ESL in a formal classroom, at least two of which should be teaching academic English to adults.
Experience: Candidates are required to have experience living and/or working in a multi-cultural multi-ethnic environment. The ideal candidate will have at least two years experience teaching English at the college level to speakers of other languages.

MA in TESOL
OR
MA in related field (such as foreign language, speech, anthropology, or education) and a TESOL Certificate or substantial coursework in TESOL methodology
OR
MA in related field and five years experience teaching ESL in a formal classroom.
Preferred: At least two years experience teaching English to speakers of other languages.

ENNL teachers and level 7 & 8 ESL teacher
- Required: MA in (applied) linguistics, English, foreign language, TESL/EFL or an MA and a total of 30 graduate credit hours in the above fields.
- Two years formal EFL/ESL teaching experience
- Preferred: Additional experience teaching English and/or foreign language
