MUC Instructor Qualifications prior to January 2025
- Master’s degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, or Production, Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Sonic Arts, Creative Media Arts, New Media, Interactive Arts and Technology, Interactive Technology, Interaction Design, Experience Design, Creative Coding, Computer Science or related field*, three (3) years experience as a performer, sound artist, new media artist, composer, engineer, producer or sound designer, or
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the areas above and four (4) years experience or
- Associate’s degree in one of the areas above and five (5) years experience,
AND
- 30 hours of lower- or upper-division post-secondary education in equity, inclusion, and/or social justice; or
- 30 hours of certificated training in equity, inclusion or social justice; or
- 30 hours of paid employment with an agency or organization with a published mission commitment to equity, inclusion or social justice
OR
Demonstrated competency: For education and/or experience not listed here, the Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction which is subject to approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
*Because this list may not include all possible subject areas, the Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction regarding specific qualifying degrees.

OR
Associates degree in Music Education, Performance, Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design or related field and 5 years of professional experience in industry as a performer, composer, engineer, producer or sound designer.
OR
Demonstrated competency: For other kinds of experience not listed here, the Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction which is subject to approval by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs

Bachelor’s degree in recording technology or related field plus three years in music to include: studio and music production, acoustic design, and technical maintenance of analog and digital recording equipment.
OR
Assoc degree in recording technology or related field plus five years of professional experience in music to include: studio and music production, acoustic design, technical maintenance of analog and digital recording equipment.
OR
Seven years of professional experience in music to include: studio and music production, acoustic design, and technical maintenance of analog and digital recording equipment.
