AB – Automotive Collision Instructor Qualifications
Auto Collision Repair Instructor
Required Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and
- I-CAR Training in Auto Collision Repair
Preferred Education
- AAS (or higher) in Auto Collision Repair Technology
- Teacher’s preparation coursework
Required Experience
- Five years full-time “on the line” experience in Auto Collision Repair with some technical knowledge of Auto Body Painting and
- 3 or more years of supervisory work experience in the Auto Collision Repair industry.
Preferred Experience
- Five years current full-time “on the line” experience in Auto Collision Repair with some technical knowledge of Auto Body Painting or
- Five years recent experience teaching elements of Auto Collision Repair, or
- Five years supervisory experience in the Auto Collision Repair industry.
ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certification in Auto Collision Repair is required within the first year of hire.
Auto Body Painting Instructor
Required Education

Related Instruction – Instructor Qualifications
AB 100, AB 105, AB 106, AB 201, AB 205 include Embedded Related Instruction in Computation, Communication, and Human Relations. In order to teach these courses, the instructors must have:
- I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) continuous education and training in course subject area. ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certification in course subject area is required within the first year of hire. The related computation for the collision repair industry is included in the I-CAR training & testing and ASE certification. (for Computation)
- 3 or more years of supervisory work experience in the Auto Collision Repair industry. (for Communication and Human Relations)
