BCT Instructor Qualifications Prior to December 2012:
BCT Instructor
- Education: AAS or Bachelors Degree (or higher) in construction or a field appropriate to construction or professional (apprenticeship) education or certification by a recognized state or professional organization is strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience: Five years recent technical experience in residential/light commercial construction is required. Teaching experience at the community college level or teaching adult learners in the areas of residential /light commercial construction is preferred and may be substituted for recent construction industry experience.
BCT 130 Construction Safety
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Certification as an OSHA Trainer or an Oregon OSHA ‘Qualified Person’ preferred.
BCT 221 Construction Law for the Contractor
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Experience in Construction Law as a paralegal or attorney strongly preferred.
BCT 101 Principles of Construction Surveying and BCT 126 Site Layout
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Certification by the Oregon State Board of Examiners as a Professional Land Surveyor preferred.
BCT 134 Construction Scheduling w/MS Project
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) from Project Management Institute or Planning and Scheduling Professional from the AACE International preferred. Five years recent experience in construction scheduling is strongly preferred.
BCT 204B Construction Estimating – Residential and BCT 204C Construction Estimating – Commercial
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Certification as a Certified Cost Engineer or Certified Cost Consultant (CCC/CCE) from AACE International or similar organization preferred. Five years recent experience in construction estimating is strongly preferred.
BCT 206 Sustainable Construction Practices
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Certification as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council preferred.
BCT 132 Computer Applications for Construction
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Microsoft Office Specialist Certification or Certification from another software publisher preferred.
BCT 202 Business Principles for Construction and BCT 207 Construction Job Costing
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Recent management experience in Construction preferred. Certification as a CPA or Public Accountant (PA) by the Oregon Board of Accountancy preferred.
BCT 219 Cabinetmaking I and BCT 220 Cabinetmaking II and BCT 211 Remodeling
- Meeting General requirements above or demonstrated competency in teaching subject area(s) as determined by SACC. Recent cabinet making experience preferred. Certification by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as a Certified Kitchen Designer or Certified Bath Designer preferred.
