HE – Health Instructor Qualifications
Master’s degree (or higher) in the Subject Area OR a Master’s degree (or higher) in a Related Area with at least 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the Subject Area.
Subject Area degrees include but are not limited to:
- Health Education, Health Science, Community Health, Public Health.
Related Area degrees include but are not limited to:
- Biology, Exercise Science, Global Health, Health Communications, Integrative Health, Integrative Medicine, Nutrition.
Additional Notes
- These lists are not exhaustive. Other degree titles and Related Areas may be appropriate.
- Career experience may substitute for content courses with appropriate documentation.
- The Program Dean, in consultation with full-time HE Faculty, will make the final determination about the applicability of a particular degree, coursework, and/or experience that is outside the scope of these lists.
- Prior teaching experience at the college level or teaching adults is preferred.
Courses for which there are additional or different requirements
HE 112 Standard First Aid and Emergency Care
- Associate’s degree or certificate from a nationally accredited or state-approved program in the field of EMT, Paramedic, Nursing, or Fire Science or one-year full-time equivalent college teaching experience, AND
- Required American Red Cross Instructor certification.
HE 252 First Aid – Basics and Beyond
- Meets general requirements for HE Instructor Qualifications, AND
- Required American Red Cross Instructor certification.
HE 295 Health and Fitness for Life
- Meets General HE Instructor Qualifications, AND
- Recommend at least 8 quarter hours of undergraduate or graduate coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, or Exercise Physiology.
