PCC library staff joined students in the Rock Creek Community Kitchen for a new series of cooking events aimed at reducing hunger and helping students create healthy meals using supplies from the Panther Pantry and Learning Garden. This was a student-led event, supported and funded by PCC Rock Creek.
At the event students were provided with kitchen facilities, recipes, and basic cooking ingredients, such as spices, to add to groceries they received from the Panther Food Pantry. Volunteers helped facilitate the cooks who prepared meals and packed them into take-home containers for the week. Library staff attended two sessions and brought over cookbooks for students to check out focused on simple recipes and fresh, inexpensive ingredients as well as showing the library Foods and Nutrition Research Guide.
Organizers hope to host more events in the future. To show support and to help make future events happen please contact rachelle.scheele@pcc.edu.
