Team Values

The PCC Marketing and Communications division strives to ensure our work reflects the diverse voices and experiences of our shared college community. We seek to produce content that directly fosters an environment of accessibility and inclusivity. And so, we hold the following values central to our work, as well as how we engage with our audiences and one another.

  1. Collaborative Engagement

We invite diverse voices into our creative process, building work and experiences with the community, not just for them.

  2. Accountability and Growth

We own our mistakes, learn from them, and apply that learning to improve future designs. Our commitment to equity means acknowledging when we fall short and doing the work to move forward responsibly.

  3. Restorative Belonging

Our creative work is meant to foster a deep sense of belonging. This means creating spaces and processes where everyone, regardless of background, feels valued and empowered to contribute.

  4. Sustainable Iteration and Innovation

We allow for real conversations and the flexibility to pause, pivot, and improve. Innovation is achieved through sustainable iteration, giving ourselves the time and space to design better, more inclusive solutions.

  5. Challenging Dominant Norms

We recognize the institutional influences of white dominant culture, imperialism, and capitalism, and actively challenge them. Our creative work strives to dismantle oppressive structures and center equity at every step.

  6. Relationships and Community Building

We prioritize building genuine relationships with the communities we serve. By fostering trust and mutual respect, we ensure that our designs are informed by the lived experiences and needs of these communities. Successful writing and design are not just about the final product – but about creating lasting, equitable partnerships that allow intention and impact to align.

Our definitions

By establishing shared definitions, we ensure our team is consistently working toward the same outcomes. As a division, we use the following collectively-approved definitions as the foundation for our team values and equity work:

  • DIVERSITY is the composition of different people represented in what you make, and the decision makers on your team.
  • INCLUSION speaks to the quality of the experience you’ve designed for your audiences, so they experience themselves as leaders and decision makers.
  • EQUITY lives in how we design our systems and processes; the way we work, and who we work with, so we are upholding our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • UNIVERSAL DESIGN is about making things more usable to more people by actively identifying and reducing barriers at the design stage.
