Online course observations

Here are 4 tools that could potentially be used for online course observations. Whether it’s part of the formal faculty assessment process or an instructor is simply looking for additional feedback on their course, these tools can be used to guide conversations around online teaching and learning. These forms are not intended to replace the required documents for the formal assessment process at PCC. They are offered to be used as possible self or peer observation tools or as a supplement to the processes and forms that may already be in use.

What works well in online teaching

Here is the checklist format of What Works Well in Online Teaching, which was designed for fully online courses. You might also want to visit the web version of this tool since it is rich with examples and faculty sharing through video.

Multimodality checklist

The Multimodality Checklist was developed to use with multimodality classes. This is the checklist to use for a class that is a combination of in-person, online, or remote.

Remote checklist

The Remote Checklist was developed to use with fully remote classes.

Adaptable online observation form

This is our former observation tool, developed by a group of faculty department chairs, deans, and online teaching faculty in 2018. This form is meant to be completely adaptable.
