School and community partners
PDX Bridge is a collaborative project designed to serve youth graduating from alternative high school programs, or students who have experienced foster care, the justice system, or housing insecurity. Through PDX Bridge, students engage in intro to college courses in their senior year of high school or soon after starting at PCC. Students receive college preparation counseling and holistic student support from a coach, and get help applying for college admittance and funding.
Eligibility
PDX Bridge is for your students if they:
- are graduating from an alternative high school program, or
- have experience in the foster care system, the juvenile justice system, or have faced housing insecurity
- have the desire to commit to college classes at Portland Community College
read at the 9th-grade reading level or higher
Dual enrollment credits
Youth enrolled in PDX Bridge while in their senior year of high school will take the following courses at PCC’s Southeast Campus
- College Success (CG 101)
- Provides information and techniques for personal responsibility as a means for creating college success.
- Introduces developing skills for navigating a culturally diverse learning environment and utilizing college resources and services.
- Credits: 1 college credit; 0.25 high school credit
- Schedule: One 1-hour course per week during the evening
- College Writing (WR 90)
- Instruction includes sentence structure, paragraph and essay development, and written expression.
- Students can expect to increase their working vocabulary and improve skills in basic communication.
- Credits: 3 college credits; 1 high school credit
- Schedule: Two 1.5-hour courses per week during the evening
