It is estimated 700,000 to 1.2 million elderly individual experience abuse and neglect in the US annually. Elder mistreatment can take many forms, including physical, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse, neglect and self-neglect.
The Elder Abuse and Neglect Specialist program at PCC Institute for Health Professionals is the first of its kind in the U.S.
The program will equip participants with the necessary skills to assess elder abuse under a myriad of complicated circumstances, including:
- Dementing illness
- Ethical issues
- Concerns for capacity for decision making
- Partnering with community agencies and other professionals for successful intervention
Professionals who can benefit from this training include medical providers, nurses, case managers, social workers, long-term care professionals, law enforcement, and any other professional who comes into contact with seniors in their day to day work.
