Landscape technology

After several years of dedicated planning and development, the PCC Landscape Technology Department is thrilled to launch a workforce development initiative to address the needs of the landscape industry. This program includes workshops held at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus, each focused on a specific theme relevant to the industry and all taught in Spanish.

Some of the goals of this workforce development program include:

• Supporting the landscape industry with relevant and accessible training opportunities
• Facilitating upward economic mobility for landscapers, especially those with marginalized identities
• Ensuring that PCC’s landscape program reflects the bilingual nature of the industry

Landscaping companies can enroll for workshops on behalf of their employees using the links below. Payment can be processed one workshop at a time or through a not-to-exceed yearly contract. Current PCC students interested in learning more about these specific topics can also register for these professional development workshops through MyPCC.

In addition to workshops held at PCC, this program also includes customized group trainings that can be held off-site at the headquarters or job sites of landscaping companies.

El departamento de tecnología de jardinería está bien emocionado del comienzo de una iniciativa nueva que satisface las necesidades de la industria de jardinería para desarrollar la fuerza laboral. Este programa ofrecerá varios talleres en español en el sitio colegial de Rock Creek que enfocarán en temas relevantes a la industria.

Algunas metas del programa incluyen: 

• Oportunidades de entrenamiento accesibles que apoyan a la industria 
• Fomentar la movilidad ascendente económica para los trabajadores de la industria especialmente los de la comunidad que se identifican con ser marginalizados
• Asegurando que el programa de tecnología de jardineria en PCC refleje los atributos bilingües de la industria

Las empresas tienen la oportunidad de pedir inscripción a los talleres de parte de sus empleados usando los links situados hacia la parte inferior de la página. Los pagos para los talleres se procesarán por cada taller inscrito o por un contrato que no sobrepase una cierta cantidad por año. Los estudiantes actuales de PCC que estén interesados en estos talleres de desarrollo profesional pueden inscribirse a través de MyPCC.

También hay oportunidades de tener talleres personalizados en grupo en el sitio de la impresa o en sitios laborales.

New instructor growing bilingual classes that better empower local landscapers

Meet the instructor

Rachel Munzig (she/her) had the privilege of growing up on a fruit tree farm where she developed her love of the outdoors, especially trees. Rachel is an ISA Certified Arborist and is also certified in Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. She double-majored in Biology-Environmental Studies and Spanish at Bowdoin College in Maine, and received a Graduate Certificate in Urban Forestry from Oregon State University.

She worked mostly in the nonprofit sector before PCC, including managing urban farms and gardens, and helping to relaunch the Portland Fruit Tree Project. She also co-founded Alder Commons, a multigenerational and multicultural nonprofit community center in NE Portland.

Rachel Munzig (ella) tuvo el privilegio de crecer en una granja donde se cultivan árboles frutales y fue allí donde se estableció su amor por la naturaleza; especialmente por los árboles.  Rachel es una arborista certificada por ISA y también tiene título de Cualificación en Evaluación del Riesgo Arbóreo. Tiene doble licenciatura en Biología concentrado en estudios ambientales y Español a través de Bowdoin College en el estado de Maine.  Completó su certificado de posgrado en Silvicultura Urbana por Oregon State University.

Antes de trabajar en PCC mayormente estuvo en el sector sin fines de lucro administrando granjas y jardines urbanos y ayudó a reiniciar Portland Fruit Tree Project.  Cofundó un centro comunitario multigeneracional y multicultural sin fines de lucro llamado Alder Commons localizado en el noreste de Portland.
