Welcome to BA 100: Business Career Planning Intended Outcomes for the Course

This course introduces students to career planning and employment communication in business to maximize employment opportunities. It is designed to be taken early in the student’s business degree program.

Career management and planning involves helping people choose or enter an occupation. It also includes self-assessment of interests, values, and skills, understanding the steps in career decision-making, and learning the necessary employability skills to obtain and keep a job once a choice has been made.

The mission of this course is to provide an opportunity for students to learn about and develop the necessary skills to assist in career planning. It is recommended that students take this course to help them secure beneficial internships and better prepare for work in their desired field once they graduate.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Apply tools to research, evaluate, and select employment opportunities in the business field to further career success.
  • Develop employment documents and networking skills to present favorably to potential employers and improve career opportunities.

Weekly announcements will include timely reminders or important information. In each weekly module on D2l, you will find all the content needed to complete that week’s activities and assignments. While assignments may vary, you will find that each module has a similar and repeated structure which includes:

  • Weekly attendance and participation are required in the classroom with camera on strongly preferred
  • Reading of the assigned materials for the week 
  • An overview of the learning objectives and activities for the week
  • A lesson & practice page with insights from your instructor and opportunities to practice your knowledge of weekly concepts
  • Any other graded assignments for the week (see below).
