Details about this class

This course explores African American history from 1877 to the present, examining the key events, movements, and figures that have shaped the Black experience in the United States. We will analyze American history from a Black perspective, centering Black people as active agents in the struggle for freedom, justice, and equality. From Reconstruction and Jim Crow to the Civil Rights Movement and contemporary issues of racial justice, this course highlights the resilience, resistance, and contributions of African Americans in shaping the nation’s history.

Class discussions and weekly readings are central to the learning process in this course. Active participation is not only encouraged but required, as it fosters a deeper understanding of the material and promotes a collaborative learning environment. Regular attendance and meaningful engagement in class discussions are mandatory and will significantly impact your overall success in this course.
