Details about this class
International Studies is a multidisciplinary study of the major geographical, political, economic, social, and cultural issues that dominate the international agenda. This is an introductory course to international studies where the contemporary and historical relationship between countries and complex global forces are analyzed. Several global issues, such as migration, security, food, health, and climate are the major topics to study regarding the increasing global interconnectedness and political, economic, and cultural globalization.
Learning OutcomesAt the end of this course:
- Students will acquire foundational knowledge in the field of international studies.
- Students will demonstrate an ability to think globally and use multidisciplinary perspectives to analyze global phenomena.
- Students will be challenged to think critically about their own lives and their connection to other cultures, places, and peoples in the world.
Outcome Assessment Strategies:
Student mastery of skills, content, and outcomes will be assessed by any combination of
the following:
- Participation in class discussions
- Writing essays
- Conducting research
- Oral and/or visual presentations
Skills
- Analyze global issues from multiple perspectives.

Participation ExpectationsThis is a remote class. Remote classes are held via Zoom. Your instructor will post the Zoom meeting room link to your PCC D2L modules before the class begins. Zoom meetings will be held on Mondays from 11:00 am to 12:50 pm.
Students in this course are expected to log in at least three times a week to work on the modules, check their email, and participate in discussions. Prompt participation in discussions is especially important when group work is involved, as others in your group depend on your input. Each time you log in, be sure to check for any new announcements, email and discussion messages, and calendar postings.

- Microsoft Office or equivalent (Google Docs, iWork, etc). You must be able to save files in doc, docx, rtf, or pdf format.

- Firefox, Chrome, or Safari browser
- You must be able to work with documents and upload them to Assignments in D2L. Directions to use Google Drive in Brightspace.
- The technical requirements for most online classes include access to a computer with a modern operating system and a supported web browser
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
