Details about this class
Welcome to JPN 103 at PCC!
You will continue learning the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to cultivate communicative competence in Japanese.
In this 5-credit course, you will attend class via Zoom twice per week (M & W 2:00 –4:20 PM). Research suggests that students should spend approximately 2 hours outside of class for every credit hour in order to be successful, so you will be expected to study and complete activities and assignments outside of class accordingly.
Attendance and active participation are required for this course. Students will interact with each other and participate in learning activities both inside and outside of class to build a supportive learning community. In addition, I will offer you one-on-one/group study sessions throughout the term. If you have any inquiries, please contact me at yumiko.omata@pcc.edu.
Technology
You will need a computer or tablet with a reliable internet connection, microphone, and webcam. D2L (Desire2Learn) and Zoom will be key learning platforms among other online applications. During our speaking and listening skills practice, it is important that you turn your webcam on to work together as a class and small group. While you may be able to access some of the materials for the course using a smartphone, it is difficult to participate in synchronous Zoom class meetings using a smartphone.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
