Details about this class
This is an in-person class. If you sign up for the course, you are expected to attend each class meeting at the location, days, and times as listed for this course in the PCC schedule of classes.
Class sessions will be a mix of lecture, collaborative work, and independent work.
The general structure for this class will be as follows:
- Before class, you will watch and take notes on lecture videos and complete a few problems covering the basics of the new material. The lecture videos allow you to learn at your own pace by pausing, rewinding, or stopping the lectures as needed.
- During the first part of class you will ask questions, discuss concepts, and participate in activities to strengthen your understanding of the material. These activities are key to success in this class, as students retain more when learning via discussions, doing practice problems, and teaching others.
- For the remainder of class time, you will work on the more in-depth, complex problems with your classmates and instructor available for consultation.
- After class, you will prepare for the next class by again watching and taking notes on the next set of lecture videos.
Technology
Although this is an in-person, much of the course material will be available online for students to access when needed. You will need:
- Access to course materials in D2L.
- Access to the online homework tool WeBWorK.
- A physical standard calculator. Neither a scientific nor a graphing calculator is required for the course. We will use a free app, such as Desmos, when a graphing utility is appropriate.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
