Details about this class

Thanks for clicking through :). Hi! Psychology is such a dynamic field of study, and one of the things I enjoy most about teaching it is helping students understand how psychology may apply in their everyday experiences and/or how they may connect with it in navigating their careers. In this details page, I want to focus more on what to expect in an in-person and online blended course (education has changed so much in recent years!). If you want to know a little more about me, check out my PCC webpage. I want you to know I understand that education has been a learning curve for all of us over the last few years, and my approach is to actively partner with students in being successful in their studies but also to support them in navigating college and learning in general.

The PCC schedule can be confusing! So here are the details:

This course is being offered as an 8-week course to help Dealer Service Technology – ThinkBIG program students meet their social science general education requirement to earn an associate's degree. This course is closed to students outside of the program. We will meet at the Rock Creek Campus each Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 2:50 PM. This course combines a primarily in-person course with online coursework and engagement. We will meet twice a week for just under 2 hours, and you will have between 1 and 2 hours of online coursework and course engagement (online lecture materials/coursework) each week. The course is designed around students attending each class meeting, so attendance is a required part of this class.

For a complete overview of what we cover in the course, please look at the Course Content and Outcomes Guide for PSY 101 for more details beyond the course description.

Please let me know if you have any questions by emailing me at rstone@pcc.eduPlease note that replies will likely take longer over the spring break.

Important message about the course setup: Why are we meeting 4 hours a week instead of 5-6? As I mentioned before, this course follows a blended course format. That means class time is split between 1-hour 50-minute in-person meetings twice a week and online coursework, instead of 6 hours a week plus homework that would be typical for an 8-week 4 credit course. The other/online 2-hours of "class time" are spent reviewing online lecture materials and completing coursework. That means there is more online engagement and less synchronous class time for a blended course than one meeting for the full 6-hours in person a week. The coursework schedule will include due dates on other days of the week (remember, this course is also partially online).

Technology

We will be using D2L Brightspace to submit assignments, and it will also include support materials for the course. If you need help accessing technology or a connection for the courses, please consider reviewing the Student Life Resources, which include a whole list of resources for students that include not only technology resources but also housing, transportation, and so much more. For technology, if you need help figuring out where to get access, click on the Digital Navigators link under the Technology section. PCC has people who help students access low-cost tech and the Internet and can help with skills, too!

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
