Details about this class

Welcome to Chem 104! I think this class is tons of fun and hope you will too. I am a strong believer that all students come into my classroom with knowledge that prepares them for class and as a community we discover how that knowledge relates to the course material. Strong classroom community is very important to me.  This means that class is participatory even in lectures.

The course will be delivered in person on campus at the Cascade Campus in North Portland.  Students will need to attend the lab section. There are no remote labs for this course.  One labs out of nine will be dropped to account for emergency absences.  Students will work with one partner during the lab.

Students will be expected to attend at the time listed.  The course content will be delivered in an week-by-week module approach. Each week's content will be contained within a separate module that includes:  lecture activities, pre-recorded video lectures, copies of notes from the videos, laboratory assignments, homework, and an activity. The instructor will hold both zoom office hours and in person office hours during the week to support students.

Students do not need to purchase a textbook or online homework program for this course.  These will be freely provided. The lab manual will be provided on D2L.  Students can turn in the post lab reports by printing them or turning them in electronically each week.

Technology

The course will be using an OER textbook and WeBWorK homework.  No purchase of these is necessary.  However, you will be required to purchase a workbook either from the bookstore or directly from the publisher. See further information above.   An internet connection and computer will be required.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
