Details about this class
Note: This is a fully online course with lectures, quizzes, homework, and the final exam all online. The labs will be done at home with a purchased lab kit, (at a cost of about $250) and you will be expected to post photos of yourself (“selfies”) while performing each lab.
You may purchase the lab kit directly from the vendor. I will send out a class email before Winter term begins with this information. So check your PCC gmail for this information at a cost of $245 + shipping.
You cannot purchase the lab kit at the book store.
However, you may use your PCC financial aid funds to order a kit voucher even before your funding is distributed to you by ordering the voucher through the PCC bookstore at a cost of $303 shipping is included. It is more expensive to order the kit through the voucher system but you can only use your financial aid through the bookstore. Once you have the kit voucher, you will need to access the Lab kit vendor website to use the voucher to order your lab kit.
If you have already used the Cengage OWL Homework system, you do not need to buy another access code. Contact the Instructor if you have any trouble or if you are from another campus and did not use this Cengage product.
This course is expensive and it requires about 15 hours of your time each week to do well.
Technology
You will need to use your PCC gmail account to access google docs for reports. You will need to be able to use word programs such as google docs which is free with your "my pcc email". Or you may choose to download Microsoft Word - this is free for students/staff - https://www.pcc.edu/o365, because you may need to be able to submit work in a word doc.
You will need to be able to upload photos of the lab set ups and of yourself working on the labs.
We offer online live office hours through “Zoom”, accessed through D2L. The course has no set lecture times, but there are pre-recorded lectures that you will be required to watch each week on your own time schedule.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
