Details about this class
This section of CH151 is hybrid and flipped. Hybrid means that the course is part online and part on-campus. Flipped means you will view and study the online lectures before we meet each week, and then we’ll spend our on-campus time working on activities and experiments that will solidify your learning.
Here’s how it will go: you will watch interactive lecture videos independently at home before our Monday in-person lectures. Then, you will come to campus on Monday for one 2-hour lecture. In the lecture, you will have a chance to ask questions about the material and practice what you have learned in small groups. You will also take your exams and quizzes during this period.
In-person lectures at the Sylvania Campus
Two hours per week are scheduled on campus for practicing course material and working in small groups. (Mondays 6:00 pm to 7:50 pm)
In-person labs at the Sylvania Campus
Students will need to attend the lab sections in person (Wednesdays 6:00 pm – 8:50pm). There are no remote labs for this course. You must be able to attend both lecture and laboratory in-person components in order to register for the course.
Two exams (1 mid-term exam and a final exam) will be given in person on campus during our regularly scheduled class sessions.
Homework will be completed using the Modified MasteringChemistry (MMC) platform. Temporary access to the MMC platform, which includes an electronic copy of the text, will be provided for the first two weeks while you determine the best purchase option for you. Please wait until after the first day of class to purchase anything. The access code for MMC, which includes an electronic copy of the textbook, can be purchased directly from the publisher at a lower price than from the bookstore. I will provide additional information on the first day of class.
Please do not purchase any ModifiedMastering Chemistry access codes online (from Amazon or other online sources). These codes will not allow you to register for this PCC CH 151 course.

Online prerequisite: Start Guide for Online Learning
Before you take your first online class at PCC, you must complete the start guide for online learning. The start guide will help you decide if online classes are right for you. Once you complete the start guide, you will be eligible to register for online classes.
The Start Guide is not required for remote classes but strongly recommended.
