Housekeeping!
So glad you’ve decided to join me in learning Irish Gaelic! Further below, you’ll find descriptions of the three tools that I utilize in class. For ease and at a quick glance, you’ll need to:
- Course Packet: Download the packet (and exercise key!) below by clicking on the appropriate hyperlink. Feel free to print it and bring it to class. Multnomah County libraries offers free printing. As a PCC student you also have free printing privilages (up to 100 double sided pages) in the campus libraries or computer labs.
- Quizlet: First, create a free profile on Quizlet.com. Second, gain access to class materials (called practice sets) by following the link below. I recommend downloading the app to your handheld device.
- Groups.io: Subscribe to my private Groups.io listserv. This can be done by accepting my invite sent to your private email address (check your junk folder) or by sending an email via the link below with the word JOIN in the subject line. This is how I will communicate and share materials (including class recordings) in the future.
COURSE PACKET:
I created this packet so that each page is a concise lesson followed (generally) by one page of exercises. English is used minimally so that you focus on patterns and forms rather than leaning heavily on translation, which limits a student’s ability to learn actively. Follow this link give you access to the packet AND to the exercise key. This material will also be available through the Groups.io listserv.
QUIZLET:
Quizlet is a great resource for language learning. It digitizes the concept of flashcards and gamifies them to increase your engagement. I’ve created a few practice sets for each lesson, which allows you to hear me pronouncing the words and phrases covered throughout the course packet. Follow this link to register and get started!
GROUPS.IO:
I utilize this secure listserv to connect everyone in class without concerns related to group emails (i.e. ends up in spam folder, personal information is accessible, etc.). Once subscribed you can augment your subscription to receive as many or as few emails as you’d like. You may also update your preferred email address is you’d rather make use of a different account. I send an initial invite at the beginning of the term to everyone enrolled in the course. If you did not receive this invite, send an email to the address below with the word JOIN in the subject line to join the listserv.

CLASS VIDEOS:
You’ll invariably miss class. Or, perhaps your work/life schedule shifts and you won’t be able to attend classes regularly. While being in class is the key to staying engaged and getting the resources needed to actively learn, it’s not the end of the world. I’ll be recording each class for your review. Just be sure that you engage with the video as you would in class. Repeat OUT LOUD the material being introduced and answer questions as if I’m asking YOU personally. I’ll send links to the recordings via Groups.io and will keep these links organized in the FILES section of each Groups.io group.
