Welcome to my PCC home page!
I just wanted to introduce myself. I began my adventure here at PCC in 2018. My core job is one of two sprinkler service technicians in the grounds department. Basically that means that I monitor and repair the various landscape sprinklers on our various campuses.
Basically my feelings are that I am here to make sure all the plants survive with using as little water as possible. You could say I am one part of the sustainability that PCC promotes vigorously throughout the district. There are many tactics we use in grounds for this.
First of all, I have a computer system with software called Maxicom that monitors all of the water used by the sprinklers I oversee. One of the functions Maxicom has is to monitor and detect for leaks, then shut down the system and send me alerts so I can do the repairs. It also connects to a sophisticated weather station so it can determine how much water the plants need taking into account of the current weather patterns.
Other tactics the grounds team uses to achieve being as sustainable as possible, is to design planted areas with water sustainability in mind. Sometimes certain areas can have plants that are more draught tolerant than others and only need to be watered during the hottest times of summer.
Beyond that, we are always looking for new innovations in equipment we can install to achieve our sustainability goals.
Other activities I am involved in here at PCC are L.E.A.D academy for future leadership roles. I also am teaching a community education class on water feature repair and maintenance.
Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you around.
Cody.
