Welcome to my homepage!
Thank you for visiting! My name is Karina Bjork, and my preferred name is Bjork; She/Her. I have been at PCC since 2018, teaching primarily Public Speaking, Introduction to Communication, and Interpersonal Communication: Process & Theory.
Want to take a class from me? First, here’s a little about my educational background: I have a B.A. in English Literature (Shakespeare) and an M.S. in Communication Studies (Sociolinguistics & Metaphors). Currently, I am working towards an M.A. in Political Psychology & PhD in Political Science & Sociology. So, what does that mean we’ll cover in my courses?
In Public Speaking, we cover Informative & Persuasive speaking along with the ethics behind both–but we’ll also dive into Political Rhetoric, Argumentation, Debates, & the philosophies behind Rhetoric.
In Interpersonal Communication: Process & Theory, we focus on self-reflection and language (linguistics) while discovering how those who communicated around us in our youth influence how we communicate today as adults. We discuss the foundations of our identity and end each term with why all concepts of Interpersonal Communication are imperative to a successful relationship.
And last but not least, Introduction to Communication!! This is where we dive into it all! From Intrapersonal, Impersonal, Interpersonal, Leadership, Business Communication, Intercultural, and more! Not sure which deep-dive communication course you want to take? Starting in COMM100 is perfect because you get to dabble a little bit in a lot of it!
But of course, I’m not just a teacher who is research obsessed. I enjoy a good book, doing needlepoint, cross-stitching, creative writing, and baking in my free time.
Want more information on the courses I teach at SE or would like a peek at a previous term’s course calendar & syllabus; please feel free to email me at karina.bjork@pcc.edu
