January 27th – March 17th
From September 26 thOctoOctOO
From April 4 throMonday, 10am-12:20pm

Take the intimidation out of watercolor painting, by experimenting and playing as you paint. Practice techniques and color  mixing. Initially we’ll just paint simple shapes and we’ll work up to using nature as inspiration for our paintings.

Students will receive more information about the class one week prior to the start date.

An art kit* is available for purchase for $73.75 at the online PCC Bookstore.  Here is the link:

*If you purchase the kit, you will still need to find the paper towels, recycled water containers and a clip board.

If you choose not to buy the kit, here’s the supply list:

  • Watercolor Paper 140lb, cold press, approx. 9”x12”, 12-24 sheets (Canson is a good and affordable paper)
  • Letter Size Clip wooden clipboard (larger board is fine)
  • Masking Tape (Artist Drafting tape or dollar store masking tape)
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper Towels
  • 3 Brushes:    #8 or #10 Round Watercolor Brush, #4 Round Watercolor Brush, ¾” or 1” Flat Watercolor Brush  (Buy synthetic or synthetic blend in these sizes)
  • Palette (I suggest a 10” x 13” plastic palette.  If this is out of your price range you can buy a small round one and bring a white plastic plate for extra mixing space)
  • 2 Plastic Tubs for Water (32oz. Empty yogurt containers work great!)
  • Scissors
  • Only 3 tubes of paintFor this beginning watercolor class, I recommend starting with only 3 quality watercolors based on the CMY color wheel.  (These 3 paints include Magenta, Cyan blue and Yellow.)
  1. Hansa Yellow Light made by Daniel Smith, Da Vinci or Graham  (pigment code PY 3)
  2. Quinacridone Magenta by Winsor & Newton (pigment code PR 122)
  3. Winsor Blue (Green Shade) by Winsor & Newton (pigment code PB 15)

If you are unfamiliar with watercolor, these small tubes seem expensive but one small tube can go a long way!  You can buy other brands of watercolor paints but please note:  colors and names from different manufacturers vary.  You can’t go by the color names! To get the correct CMY colors, disregard the specific color name and look for the specific pigment code listed above.

Optional supplies:  a plastic plate (for extra paint mixing), an apron and a hair dryer.
