Calligraphy class basic supply list =
Please also email me if questions so I can define for you – online the best source is John Neal Bookseller, in Portland supplies can be purchased at Columbia Art & Drafting, Dick Blick, a few items are at the Artist & Craftsman stores along w/some craft supply stores.
- Speedball C2 pen nib + comfortable nib holder
- Water soluble ink = Higgins Eternal or Higgins FOUNT india or Pelikan 4001
- Good paper can include “resume” paper, Gilbert bond 25% cotton fiber watermark, Southworth 25% cotton fiber, graph paper, PLEASE you do not need the pads that are full of horizontal & diagonal lines! Ink jet copy paper or simply good copy paper will work fine to get started.
- If left handed, there are specific left handed pen nibs & I also recommend left handed students purchase calligraphy markers in similar size to the C2 nib ( 3mm, 3 1/2 mm or close – not smaller please)
- Right handed people are also welcome to purchase calligraphy markers as listed in #4 along w/your traditional dip pens.
- Pen wipes – we will discuss in class along w/ any other related items
I do not recommend using a “handwriting” size fountain pen, my preference is to use a larger size to begin so you are able to actually see the pen angle and the shapes we will be working with. THANKS !
