About Me
About me: I am the daughter of an immigrant and was married to an immigrant for over 17 years. My kids were raised in a bilingual, multi-generational household which included their Cuban ‘abuela’. My non-english speaking mother-in-law and I shared a kitchen and child-raising for over 12 years- and our values and backgrounds were quite different! The immigrant story has certainly shaped my world and led me to study other languages, live in other places, and work with ELLs, immigrants/refugees for a number of years.
These days, I am a solo parent with two evolving young adults, our mutt “Winston”, kitties “Mochi” and “Charo” and a revolving exchange student (hosting every year, for the past 5 years, mostly from Latin American countries). In my spare time, I am a lover of books, card games like “Hearts” or “Pounce”, strong coffee, all kinds of yoga, walking in the woods, spontaneous dance parties (off-camera), cooking and eating spicy food, ‘rushing’ an occasional theater production , and enjoying my regular Netflix/Apple/Hulu intake- just to name a few of my interests. I really value my down time and unplugging from “it all” with a good book or a long road trip. I have lately returned to meditation as a daily practice. I know I contribute better when I prioritize self-care.
