Hi! I’m Vivian McCann, and I’ve been happily teaching psychology for more than 25 years! In 2021, I “retired” from my full-time faculty role at PCC to cut back to teaching part-time while I explore other things 🙂 One thing I realized during the pandemic is that we never know how long we’re going to have on this earth, so I took a leap of faith and decided to make that big life change now while I’m still (relatively!) young and energetic.
In addition to teaching, I am the author and co-author of several textbooks:
* Human Relations: The Art and Science of Building Effective Relationships(Pearson, 2017, 2007), and
* Psychology: Core Concepts (2017, 2012, 2008) with Phil Zimbardo and Bob Johnson.
Writing the textbooks gave me an amazing opportunity to dig deep into research from cultures around the world so I could incorporate cutting-edge psychological science into the textbooks in a way that is relevant and meaningful for us as world citizens in the 21st century. I think understanding basic psychological principles is an important tool in understanding the people in our world, as well as our various worlds and cultures as a whole — so I love teaching about it and helping people make those connections in their own lives.
In addition to psychology, I love to travel, and have explored 37 countries so far. I also enjoy spending time with my horses and dogs, listening to live music, reading, cooking, being outdoors, and appreciating all life has to offer. I look forward to working with you!
