  • Please copy the place value diagram on Page 2 into your notebook.
  • Section 1.1 starting on page 6, do all odd problems and please write the original problem.  You will want to work problems 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, … until 93.
  • Section 1.2 starting on page 16, do every other odd problem and again please write the original problem.  You will want to work problems 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, … until 97.

HW #2 Due on July 12, 2022

Note:  For all sections, the problems are from the Practice Exercises at the end of the section.

Please remember to write out the original problem.  We do allow one exception and that is for a long worded problem; you only need to write some key words and numbers.  You certainly are invited to write the entire problem.

On worded problems make sure you answer with a complete sentence and if measurements are involved, write units.

  • 1.4:  Every Other Odd from 1 – 57, that is 1, 5, 9, 13, …
  • 1.5:  Every Other Odd from 1 – 93, that is 1, 5, 9, 13, …
  • 1.6:  Problem 1

Please read 1.6 – 1.8

Our first test will be on July 14, 2022 on chapter 1 and part of chapter 2.

HW #4 Due on July 26, 2022

This week we covered fractions going over the essential parts of sections 2.1 through 2.6.  I would like everyone to carefully  read the following document and for those who missed Tuesday or Thursday of this week, the reading is critical.

https://www.pcc.edu/staff/wdiss/wp-content/uploads/sites/237/2020/02/Operations-On-Fractions.pdf

  • 2.1:  1
  • 2.1:  15 – 70 by 5, that is, 5, 10, 15, … 70
  • 2.2: 1
  • 2.2: 57 – 75 odd
  • 2.3: 1
  • 2.3: 25 – 50 by 5, that is 25, 30, … 50
  • 2.3: 61 – 67 odd
  • 2.4: 1, 71 – 73
  • 2.5: 39 – 63 odd
  • 2.6: 1
  • 2.6: 57 – 73 odd

We will start in chapter 3 on adding and subtraction fractions on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.  Please look at last set of steps and problem in the document:

https://www.pcc.edu/staff/wdiss/wp-content/uploads/sites/237/2020/02/Operations-On-Fractions.pdf

There are many similar steps in adding/subtracting fractions and in dividing/multiplying fractions.  The big difference is that all fractions have to have the same denominator.  We call this process finding the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD).  Please read 3.2 and 3.3 carefully.

Lastly, I will be out of town on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 and possibly on Thursday, July 28, 2022.  Please give the substitute your upmost respect and cooperation.  Feel free to email me as I will be checking email on a regular basis.

HW #5 Due on August 2, 2022

I hope all went well with the substitute this past week.  At this point of the class you should know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and problems with fractions and mixed numbers or fractions and whole numbers.

  • P.  215:  51 – 64
  • P, 217:  1 – 30
  • Test #2 on August 4, 2022 will be on fractions and decimals (Ch. 2, Ch 3, and part of Ch 4.)

The following document has a good overview of fractions and the necessary steps.
