HW #2 5.2:  9 – 27 by 3.

5.3:  3 – 27 by 3.

 

Check at least three problems in 5.2 and 5.3

 

5.1:  17 – 21 odd

5.1:  43 – 47 odd

 

Look at worded problems in 5.2 and 5.3.

 

Test #1 on October 18, 2018.

 

HW #3 In 5.2 and 5.3 set up variables, charts and equations for mixture problems in:

5.2: 68, 69, 75, 76, 77

5.3: 42, 43

After all setup, work at least two completely.Also in 5.2 and 5.3 set up variables, charts and equations for five investment problems. Solve at least two completely.

 

Pick investment problems with a known interest earned or lost.

 

Also in 5.2 and 5.3 set up variables, charts and equations for five “point,” or “buying,” “selling,” two things and solve at least two completely.

 

In 5.2 and 5.3 do all setup on three comparing two plans and solve one completely. I will send steps and post them.S

 

Study for test on 10/18 by reviewing notes and work problems by picking 3 problems from HW#1, HW#2 and HW#3 for a total of 9 problems.  Make a practice test and then complete your practice test.

HW #4 6.3:  5 – 60 by 5 (skip 50)

 

6.4:  13, 18 – 87 by 3 and please skip any application problems.

 

6.5:  15 – 21 odd.  Please use steps in the notes and do use not special products shown in 6.5.

  • Read 7.1.  Problems: 21 – 48 by 3 and check at least five by showing the multiplication.
  • 7.2:  Factor at least half of the problems from 17 – 36 by grouping.  Check at least five by showing the multiplication.
  • 7.4:  Factor using the table method and work as at least 10 problems in each of the following ranges, 9 – 28, and 41 – 61.  Check at least five in each range by showing the multiplication.

 

Please read all of chapter 7 and we will go over four more methods on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

  • 7.3: 11 – 46 and 71 – 80, factor at least half using the Method for Factoring Trinomials with Leading Coefficient of One.  Do a full check on at least five problems.
  • 7.5: 13 – 34, factor at least half of these problems using the Difference of Squares Method.  Do a full check on at least five problems.
  • 7.5: 35 – 52, factor at least half of these problems using the Perfect Square Trinomial Method.  Do a full check on at least five problems.
  • 7.5: 53 – 68, factor at least half of these problems using the Sum or Difference of Cubes Method.  Do a full check on at least five problems.
  • 7.6:  37 – 75 odd and 82.  Note: many of these have two different factoring steps.  Remember to try GCF first.  Do a full check on at least five problems.

The following link has notes on all of the factoring methods.  It is an older document, but it is close to what we have covered the last two weeks.

 

Test #2 will be on Thursday, November 7, 2018 on parts of Ch 6 and all of Ch 7.

 

HW #7 We have just been factoring and and one of the applications of factoring is to solve quadratic equations.  Please read the following and add these notes to your notebook.

  • Problems:  8.1: 3 – 45 by 3, and check a third.   8.1:  58, 62

We will now look at some more exponent rules.  Recall that we have been adding exponents when multiplying expressions which contain the same base.

 

Please read the following document; specific steps will be added later.  Please write these notes in your notebook.

  • 6.1:  10 – 140 by 5.
  • 6.2:  3 – 42 by 3.  Note: Did not give steps for a number in scientific notation to a power.  You will put number in front of x 10 in a ( ) and the 10 and its exponent in a ( ).  Both ( ) are raised to the original power on the ( ).  Simplify both ( ) and write final answer in scientific notation.
  • 6.6:  12 – 24 by 3.
