Featuring both kids movies in one room with an environmental social justice theme and the most recent in your face environmental focused documentaries being shown in the ASPCC foyer. Snacks, drinks, and popcorn provided.

Recycling Workshop, Student Union 203, 1:30 – 2pm
Do you know how to recycle? Do you know what can and can’t be recycled? If you want to learn how to reuse, reduce and recycle, then join the Cascade Multicultural Center for a recycling workshop! We will be talking about reasons why marginalized communities are not provided with proper waste containers for them to dispose of waste properly and where you can go in the Portland area to dispose of waste properly and where you can go in the Portland area to dispose of your own hazardous waste like care batteries and paint.

Cascade Bike Fair, Student Union quad, 11am – 2pm

Bringing together our local bike community in north Portland. This tabling fair will future our own PCC bike programs, local bike shops, raffle prizes, test ride a bike, learn how to fit in your helmet right, and so much more.

Environmental Social Justice Panel, Student Union 203, 3 – 5pm
THis panel will host a variety of PCC’s instructors that are civiacally engaged in environmental and social justice work. The panel will discuss the current political climate and dismantling of the EPA as it relates to environmental impacts, climate change, and environmental justice movements. The discussion will be followed by questions from the audience. Snacks and drinks provided.

The Second Annual Sustainability Expo, Student Union quad, 11am – 2pm

This event brings together local sustainable businesses, farmers, and environmentalists to educate, share food, and have fun with the students of Cascade.

Environmental Dance Movement, Student Union room 202 & 204, 6 – 9pm

The Recovery 101 Club and The Environmental Sustainability Club have collaborated to bring you an event where you will have a chance to release stress through dance. Two local DJ’s playing three hours of non-stop EDM music for complete euphoria. Juice bar with complimentary B12 and wheatgrass shots. This is a drug free dance party and a safe place for all to be themselves. P,L,U,R 🙂

Kelly Point Park Clean Up, Kelly Point Park, 9am – 4pm
Join the Cascade Environmental Club for the Kelly Point Park Clean Up! This will be an all-day event of invasive species removal, planting of native species, trash pick- up, and a metal detector beach walk. The event will feature a live recycled art expo and local music and food! Lunch will provide for volunteers w/costume T-shirts. Contact Dustin.Boomer@pcc.edu for more info.

Facing Climate Change Workshop, Technology Education Building room 222, 12:30pm – 4:30pm
This workshop will use lessons from ecopsychology to help you build your own reserves of personal resilience so that you can face what you know and read about climate change with clear eyes, not sink into despair, and learn practices that will be psychologically supportive and empowering, including suggestions for how you can take action in your own communities. ‘Years of Living Dangerously’ is a documentary series that chronicles people and places around the globe affected by climate change and bold efforts being taken to address it. This episode first dives into both the localized and global impacts of the palm oil industry, such as massive deforestation. The episode also follows a team of wild-land firefighters as they face a new kind of forest fire — one made worse by climate change.

Ground Operations is an award-winning documentary film and social action campaign that champions the growing network of combat veterans who are transitioning into careers as sustainable farmers, ranchers and artisan food producers. We will also encore our Pollinator Promotion! Learn about pollinators: what they are, how they help us and how to attract them. We will also have free flower starts and free seeds.

Habitat Restoration Work Party – meet in Building 7, first floor student lounge, 10am – 1pm
Are you looking for a way to get involved for Earth Day, learn about invasive plants, and make our campus an even better place? Consider volunteering with us to remove invasive species and trash from our forest. Dress to work outside!

Energy Trust Energy-Saving Lighting Fair, Building 5 Lobby, 10am – 2pm
Representatives on behalf of the Energy Trust of Oregon will be here conducting an Energy-Saving Lighting Fair. The representatives will be here to answer your questions regarding residential energy use and strategies for savings. They will also have an inventory of lamps available for purchase on the spot with many discounted well below typical retail prices. Credit cards, contactless payments, cash and checks are accepted.

Finding Resilience in our Communities and Ecosystems Lecture, Community Hall, 12pm – 1pm

The Multicultural Center, Earth and Spirit Council and Sustainability Department are happy to host Martha Elena Llano Serna for a public lecture where she will discuss her work promoting resilience abroad and how this work intersects with our local communities. Martha is a Colombian researcher, artist and community conservationist. She has worked with endangered species and indigenous communities for 20+ years combining art and environmental activism. Her current projects include working in El Robledal promoting communal living in harmony with the land and in Gaia she is working with communities to rebuild after war and deforestation.

Iron Chef Veggie Cookoff, Great Hall, 3pm– 5pm
PCC students put their veggie cooking skills to the test to make delicious, healthy, sustainable food. The winning recipe will be featured in the cafeteria.

• How to be Sustainable: Check out the Sylvania library displays on what we can do to be more sustainable.
• Styrofoam Recycling Challenge: During Earth Week this year, our PCC community will compete in the Styrofoam Recycling Challenge. We will be holding the styrofoam suspended in the CC upper mall.
• Flat Magnet Collection: Help biology students learn about biologic processes when they upcycle those old magnets into interactive learning tools. Collection in the CC.

Meatless Monday Kick off, Cafeteria, all day
Learn about how reducing the amount of meat you eat can be tasty and beneficial to the planet. This is a collaboration between ASPCC and Food Services.

Women’s Drum Circle, CC near the totem pole, 10am – 11am
Come join the Women’s Drum Circle to open Earth Week. We will be singing songs to honor the energies of the Earth and connections to the spirits. It will be fun and interactive. Then join us on Friday to send the spirits home.

Teachings of the Drum, CC near the totem pole, 11:30am – 12:30pm
Come join an interactive class on learning about the mystery and spirituality of the drum. Did you know it represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth? Come listen to a Native American elder speak on the importance of the drum in helping heal Mother Earth and all that resides on her.

ASPCC Earth Elements Campaign, CC Mall, TBD
ASPCC Will be creating buttons of the four main elements of our world, (Earth, Water, Fire Air) and will raise awareness on the impact that humans have had on those elements.

ASPCC’s representative Reter Revello will be hosting two sessions on how to plant house plants.

We will be selling vegetable starts for home gardens. A variety of veggies will be available including tomatoes, peppers, onions, zucchini, cucumber, rosemary, dill, and the list goes on. We will also have combo packs specifically made for growing everything you need to make a delicious salsa, savory soup, or a healthy pizza! Proceeds will go to the ASPCC Food Canteen and the Phi Theta Kappa fundraiser budget.
You can also bring your unwanted or unneeded seeds and trade them for ours. Or, if you have found yourself without growing space this year you can donate seeds with the assurance that they will benefit our learning community.

We will end the tour with cookies from our amazing cob oven.

The PCC Sylvania Habitat Restoration Team will celebrate the 21st Earth Day Birthday with a party and cake. April Ann’s team will provide real plates and forks and will wash them! : ) They will also be showing the film Sonic Sea and discussing sonic pollution.
