2. Crew Leader Training
Friends of Trees is seeking new Crew Leaders for the upcoming October-April planting season! Being a Crew Leader is a great way to meet people, develop valuable leadership skills and, of course, learn how to plant trees the right way.
You’ll wear a Friends of Trees vest at weekend plantings and receive the respect and admiration of the volunteers on your crew, as well as receive a coveted Tree Team t-shirt and great food (a hallmark of all of our planting events).
Crew Leaders are one of our most important volunteer roles as they help teach our volunteers how to plant trees and work together as a team. During our planting season, each crew leader commits to guiding small groups of planters at four Saturday morning plantings throughout the planting season. We have almost 70 public planting events scheduled this season.
You’ll learn to guide volunteers and how to plant small native trees and shrubs to help restore natural areas and green spaces, as well as plant larger urban street trees in Portland & Vancouver neighborhoods.
Join this fun and energetic team by signing up for a required one-day training. To register for the training, or for more information, please visit this link:

El Programa Hispano
El Programa Hispano provides a wide range of quality, culturally-appropriate social services to low-income Latinos in the Portland metropolitan area. Through considerable volunteer support we offer free tax preparation to the community, providing these vulnerable taxpayers a trustworthy, culturally-specific alternative to predatory tax preparers and to unnecessarily paying to prepare their basic tax returns. This program is completely volunteer-based—the more volunteers we receive the more taxpayers we are able to help.
3. Help the Low-Income, Latino Community, No Experience Necessary!
Volunteers do not need prior tax knowledge, we provide the necessary training free! We are seeking bilingual individuals interested in providing a vital service to those in need to help us as trained tax preparers, intake assistants and interpreters 4-5 hours/week during tax season (late January to mid-April). Orientations begin in October.
4. Do you have experience with taxes? Help your community this tax season!
We are seeking individuals with tax experience (preferably EA, CPA, RTRP, LTP or tax attorney) interested in providing a vital service to those in need to help as trained quality reviewers, the most vital role in the success of our program, 4-5 hours/week during tax season (late January to mid-April). Spanish is helpful but not required. Continuing Education (CE) credit is available for your service hours. Orientations begin in October.

5. Videography? Event planning? Restoration work? Something for everyone this Fall!
Looking for a way to connect to a great NE Portland non-profit organization? The Columbia Slough Watershed Council works to connect the community to the watershed through restoration, recreation and restoration in N and NE Portland. This Fall, we’re hosting a number of unique volunteer and internship opportunities. Check them out and lend a hand!
Have experience filming or editing videos? Assist us in November as our Videographer Volunteer! Interested in event promotion and non-profit management? Join us as a Development Intern and help make our annual fundraiser, the Slough Celebration, a big success! Help out as an office volunteer and help us run more smoothly or join us for Stewardship Saturdays – our outdoor, done-in-a-day work parties.
