Portland Art Museum: The museum needs new docents!

Posted by

The Portland Art Museum is looking for fun and engaging people-people to join our volunteer docent corps. This year’s docent training class will focus on the creation of participatory experiences in the Museum’s galleries, with an emphasis on K-12 school tours. Training will include current docents and staff from across the Museum in an effort to explore the forms that engagement can take, as well as the Museum as a resource for teachers and students.

If you want an opportunity to be in on the ground floor of creating progressive and educational experiences for students, we want you!  The training will be experimental and collaborative in nature and we are looking for candidates who are adventurous, flexible, self-motivated, energetic, and have a strong interest in facilitating dialogue-based learning with students. This wonderful opportunity will be limited to 15 people.

Details about scheduling/time commitment:

The group will meet each Monday from September 21st through early June at 9:30 am- 1:00 pm and will roughly follow the school year schedule with recesses around the holidays, and in the spring. The training class will include some work to be completed on your own time and there will be opportunities to learn and practice at other times of the week throughout the year. After this training course, new docents will be ready to facilitate experiences in the Museum’s galleries!

Applications are due on Friday, July 17, 2015.
