Mentor for MIKE Program!

Mentors meet once per week in a high school classroom for a semester or year-long program. Although our fall programming schedule is not yet finalized, we predict (based on last year’s schedule), that our Fall classes will take place at De La Salle North Catholic High School in North Portland (from September 2015 – January 2016, Thursdays from 11:00AM – 12:00PM Thursdays from 12:30-1:30PM) and Liberty High School in Hillsboro (from September 2015 – June 2016, Tuesdays 3:30PM -4:45PM)

As a mentor, you will act as a guide and positive role model for a small group of 4-5 youth. You will be placed in a health classroom along with a team of other mentors, a health teacher, and myself. You will take turns providing healthy snacks to the class (paid for by MIKE Program) and facilitate small group discussions, assist with hands-on activities, participate in a field trip, and facilitate a final health leadership project in which your group will share what they learn about health within their community.

About the Organization

MIKE (Multicultural Integrated Kidney Education) Program is a health education and group mentoring program for at-risk high school youth. MIKE empowers youth to be health leaders through education, mentorship, and community outreach. We aim to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, kidney failure, and high blood pressure that disproportionately affect low-resource populations and communities of color.
