Hacienda CDC: After-school tutoring/activities with Youth

Posted by

We are currently looking for tutors who can help youth grades K-8 with math, science, literacy, and problem solving.

Many students do not get such support at home or at school and thus depend on our resources in order to keep up in school. We are eager for tutors of all kinds, and would also love assistance in our soccer program as well as our mental and physical health class for adolescent girls. However, there is room for more! Maybe you have skills in cooking, speaking Spanish or Maay Maay, jewelry making, music, art, wildlife tracking, conflict resolution, teaching emotions, soccer, knitting, ceramics, science, teambuilding games, photography, or are just great with kids.

You do not have to be bilingual, but experience with English language learners is always welcome!

Volunteers are needed for at least 2 hours a week during programming: Monday-Friday during the school year 2:30-6:00pm. A 10-week minimum commitment is requested.

Location: At our community center sites along NE Killingsworth Street, and one site in North Portland in the Portsmouth neighborhood.

About the Organization

Hacienda CDC’s mission is to strengthen families by providing affordable housing, home ownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities. As part of our mission we support the youth of our housing sites by offering them tutoring, mentorship, and enrichment programs at their places of residence. We serve many Latino and Somali youth, and many of them are first generation immigrants. They are a group with unique challenges, as most students transition between their English speaking schools and their non-English speaking parents.

I would like to be a volunteer tutor in Southeast Portland. I live near SE 60th and Powell. Do you need a tutor in this area?
