Congratulations to our 2015-2016 CBL Honorees!
CBL recently recognized outstanding PCC faculty and students at our Annual Celebration and Awards Reception!
EMILY GAGE, 2015-2016 OUTSTANDING CBL FACULTY AWARDEE
Alfred McQuarters, Division Dean Math, Science, and Career & Technical Education (CTE), nominated Emily! He believes Emily is “truly interested in improving outcomes through CBL.” He also highlighted her understanding of the broad spectrum of students’ abilities and how she is able to motivate them through her teaching. The CBL Team also recognized her dedication, not only to students, but to our professional development efforts.
CHRISTINA FRIEDLE, 2015-2016 OUTSTANDING COLLABORATIONS IN CBL AWARDEE
Sarah Tillery, Dean of Social Sciences, nominated Christina for the award of OUTSTANDING COLLABORATIONS IN CBL. Sarah shared how Christina has worked tirelessly over the years to cultivate relationships with community partners in order to make her GIS CBL projects mutually beneficial for them and her students. Her CBL practice demonstrates the kind of reciprocal relationships that we want faculty to develop for their course projects.

Lamees Al Shaibani
CAS 123 Production Keyboarding – PCC Sylvania Touch-Type ESOL Classroom Assistant Volunteer
Elsie Lasher | Spring 2016
“It’s quite extraordinary to reflect back at when I was an ESOL student and now having the ability to help teach other students. Furthermore, being a part of a hands-on experience is something new in my PCC career and I’ve learned a lot from it. Overall, this project has not felt like an assignment but rather has been quite enjoyable.”
Elliott Houha
BA 205 Business Communication – Project: Socks for Good
Cole Chatterton | Winter 2016
“This project has shown me how important it is to actually go out and become a part of the community and in doing so has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to gain real world knowledge that no textbook can teach. I’ve learned that community engagement is crucial to the success of any society and that it is a responsibility of each and every one of us to play an active role within our community. This project has allowed me to go beyond the classroom and actively engage with my surroundings.”
Lucinda Klicker
BA 205 Business Communication – Project: Socks for Good
Cole Chatterton | Winter 2016
“I wasn’t working on something that felt familiar and comfortable, I was in the process of learning completely new skills while at the same time applying them to my real life. I couldn’t have asked for a more rewarding and challenging academic experience.”
Leland Nash
BA 205 Business Communication – Project: Waste Not
Cole Chatterton | Winter 2016
“This was one of the best things I enjoyed the most out of this project, the engagement that went along with it. After coming to a realization of how rewarding of a feeling this can be, it has strengthen my beliefs about PCC and what it has to offer for students.”
Nathaniel Nelson
HST 106 History of China – PCC Sylvania Student Learning Center Volunteer
Sylvia Gray | Fall 2015
“Working within the PCC community at Sylvania has given me valuable insight into the international students that I would not have without being a part of the staff at the student learning center. I feel that I have become much more integrated within the student body, and I actively communicate more with my peers as a result.”
Brandon Umbarger
BA 205 Business Communication – Project: Rent Crisis
Cole Chatterton | Fall 2015
“By showing me my own ability to be a leader, to be influential and to be an upstanding citizen, I gained an appreciation for my education that wasn’t present before this class began. This project has made me want to pursue my interests because I have gained a confidence that I can and will do excellent things by virtue of my passion for them.”
