1. New Avenues for Youth: Come Volunteer and Enjoy a Night of Craft Beer and Music at Brews for New Avenues!
Brews for New Avenues features a live auction of some of the world’s rarest beers, silent auctions, an amazing assortment of local craft beers on tap, live music, food carts, and free root beer floats for designated drivers!
What’s more, it’s all for a good cause. Brews is a signature event of the Ambassador Board of New Avenues for Youth, with 100% of proceeds supporting programs that help youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This event takes place on Saturday, August 27th at the Left Bank Annex.
We are in search of volunteers to help with a variety of different roles. Shifts are typically 2-3 hours long, depending on the role. We will have volunteer support throughout the day, with shifts beginning as early as 10AM, and going as late as Midnight. Volunteers are granted free entry to the event, along with a commemorative glass, a food voucher, two drink tickets, and a Brews for New Avenues t-shirt.
All of the roles listed in the full post require volunteers to be at least 21 years of age, with the exception of the Clean-Up Crew who will be volunteering from 10:30PM-Midnight, after the event ends.

2. Friends of Trees: Seeking interested volunteers in the Portland/Vancouver area to join our tree calling team!
Interested in keeping Portland green but only available during the week? Love talking to people about trees? Then the Friends of Trees Tree Caller role could be for you!
Volunteer Tree Callers help Friends of Trees connect with residents who simply need a little help choosing the perfect tree for their space. This role excels with volunteers who are not shy of phones and can confidently navigate our online ordering system (training included). This role is held at our office at 3117 NE MLK Blvd in Portland on Wednesday evenings. Monthly commitment for Tree Callers can be anywhere from 2-8 hours.
**The next Tree Caller training will be held on Wed, Aug 24th at 5:30pm at our office in NE Portland.** If you can’t make this training, no worries! We can accommodate training on any Wednesday evening that we have our Tree Callers.

3. Cascade AIDS Project (CAP): Internships and Volunteer Roles

I. Cascade AIDS Project: Internship and Other Volunteer Roles in Support Services for People Living with HIV
Cascade AIDS Project is seeking an intern to assist clients living with HIV in our Service Center. This intern will greet clients, determine reason for visit, make sure they sign-in and make them feel comfortable. They will work one-on-one with clients in seeking out goals: employment, housing, medical care, support groups and help connect them with other resources. Additional details in full post (including ideal candidate description).
Ten hours per week minimum commitment*; Shift times flexible.
Located at 520 NW Davis St.
*This is also available as a volunteer role for someone interested in fewer than 10 hours per week.
II. Cascade AIDS Project: Internship and Volunteer Roles Available in HIV Prevention Department
Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) is seeking a Prevention Communications Intern for placement now through May 2017. This intern will work with HIV Prevention staff to create a social media strategy and find relevant content to share with our community. Candidate must be able to (or have strong desire to learn to) communicate in a nonjudgmental, tactful manner about: sex, sexuality, drug use, HIV and other related topics. Volunteer Receptionists Needed:
- Pivot, CAP’s community space and testing facility, is seeking volunteer receptionists on Tuesdays (4 – 8:30pm) and Saturdays (1:45 – 7pm) during HIV/STI testing hours. 209 SW Fourth Ave.
- CAP’s Vancouver clinic is seeking a volunteer receptionist/greeter for Tuesday HIV/STI testing hours. Every other Tuesday – 10:30am – 1:30pm. 3701 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. in Vancouver.
4. Cat Alliance Team Sanctuary (C.A.T.S.): Volunteers Needed
The Cat Alliance Team Sanctuary located in Sherwood, Oregon and are in desperate need of volunteers! C.A.T.S. is a non-profit organization and cat shelter located on the private farm by the gentleman who started the famous Cat Adoption Team.
- At the very basic level we need people who would be interested in just sitting with the cats, playing, petting, and socializing them. Socialization is key to successfully adopting out or cats and especially kittens.
- For students interested in going into the non-profit field we also do adoption events and fund-raisers. We are currently working on a fund-raiser to set up through the ASPCC.
- We would also highly benefit from students in IT to do web design and support.

5. Columbia Slough Watershed Council: Volunteers needed for Aquifer Adventure, Portland’s only pirate-themed groundwater festival! (Saturday, September 17, 2016)
It’s time to celebrate at Aquifer Adventure, Portland’s only pirate-themed groundwater festival! Join our volunteer crew as the Portland Water Bureau and Columbia Slough Watershed Council team up to present a FREE, family-friendly event full of educational games, canoe rides, crafts and more!
Over 800 pirates-in-training have made this large event a success in past years and we need you. This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups and individuals age 14 and up. Volunteers needed as: parking lot greeters, welcome tent attendees, canoe and dock area hands (experience required), and youth activity leaders! Event date: Saturday, September 17th, 2016. Event open to the public 12-4pm. Volunteers are needed for the following shifts:
- Shift 1: 8:00am – 11:00am (Setup)
- Shift 2: 11:30am – 4:00pm (Event shift)
- Shift 3: 4:00pm – 6:00pm (Clean up)

6. Volunteers of America Oregon: Facilitate after school programming with our Youth Gambling Prevention Services
Youth Gambling Prevention (a program of Volunteers of America Oregon) is a community partner with Floyd Light Middle School’s SUN School’s (School’s Uniting Neighborhoods) after school program to disseminate gambling prevention strategies to youth through providing hands-on experiences and positive adult bonding. Volunteers will play an integral role in facilitating activities for youth, building positive relationships and watching children grow. This is a great opportunity to gain skills in child development, teaching, and counseling. Sample activities include:
- Support staff by working one-on-one and in small groups of students to aid in the completion of provided activities – games and or art projects.
- Set up and break down activities for the day; assist in the implementation and creation of new projects.
- Co-lead field trips to local parks and other outdoor activities for our Kids at Home in the Wild (KaHW!) program.
Please read the time and committment requirements carefully:
- Three month commitment of a weekly shift on Mondays; with the exception of school/VOA Oregon closures.
- Activities are from 3:45-5:05 P.M.
- Volunteer for one, two, or all three terms offered below:
