Portland Community College – Newberg Center: Newberg Garden Cob Shed Working Party (Friday 9/23 and 10/7 )
Posted by hannah.cherry
Come one, come all and help us build a cob shed for the incoming learning garden!!
Friday 9/23 and Friday 10/7 from 9am-4pm join us at PCC Newberg Center – 135 Werth Blvd, Newberg, OR 97132. Building with cob is best in community, come join ours to learn how to make durable earthen walls. We have mixed much of the cob for the project by foot but today we will expedite the process with a mortar mixer. There will be plenty of really wet cob for easy application. Tasks include shoveling, wheel barrow pushing, bucket carrying, cob treading, cob application, cob trimming, cob sculpting. Volunteers are welcome to come and go as they please. Please bring water and wear work clothes for the days’s weather. Some folks cob in bare feet but the soil and sand we are using has crushed rock in it, so footwear for wading in mud is recommended. Rubber boots and strap on water shoes work well. Anything slip-on will not stay on your feet.
