El Programa Hispano Catolico: Seeking volunteers with tax experience to help the low-income community
Posted by hannah.cherry
El Programa Hispano Catolico (EPHC) is a non-profit organization providing quality, culturally-specific social services to low-income Latinos in the Portland metropolitan area. Through considerable volunteer support and dedication and in partnership with the IRS we provide certified basic tax preparation to the low-income Latino community free of charge, last season helping over 1,000 taxpayers in need secure $2 million in refunds. This season we aim to grow our volunteer team in order to meet the increasing demand for this invaluable service and we need your help!
By volunteering just five hours a week during tax season as a trained Quality Reviewer you can provide a vital service and in turn an important step towards economic security to those most in need. Quality Reviewers are essential to the success of our program, ensuring high-quality, accurate preparation and service. Spanish is helpful but is not required. Continuing Education (CE) credit is available. Orientations are happening throughout November and December, trainings throughout December and January to fit with varying schedules. Service runs January 24th-April 17th. Please contact our Site Coordinator Karen Keating by e-mail or phone with any interest or questions you have. We look forward to hearing from you!

Through considerable volunteer support and dedication our VITA program offers free tax preparation to the community, providing low-income taxpayers a trustworthy, culturally-specific alternative to unlicensed tax preparers and to paying tax preparation costs they cannot afford.
