Campus Compact of Oregon and the colleges and universities of the Portland metropolitan area are gearing up for this year’s 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day of Service. We would like to invite YOU to be a Student Project Leader with us!
WHAT DOES A STUDENT PROJECT LEADER DO? In order to manage the hundreds of student volunteers that will be serving on MLK Day, we need your help! Student Project Leaders will be assigned a project on MLK Day and volunteers to manage. You’ll ensure that volunteers have direction, materials, support, and motivation to get work done! You’ll also help facilitate reflection activities with your volunteers following service. To prepare you for this experience, you’ll be provided with training and support.

II. PCC MM & QRC: Winter Sock Drive ~ Fall 2016/Winter 2017
WINTER SOCK DRIVE for those experiencing homelessness! We will accept all donations….prefer new or nearly new items! Donations will go to SMYRC and will benefit sexual and gender minority youth!
This is the 6th annual sock drive where we put forth our efforts to collect and distribute socks, hygiene items, blankets, scarves, gloves, or jackets to community members who are experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness. 2. Adelante Mujeres

Our Chicas Youth Development Program offers after-school sessions to 3rd-12th grade girls in the Forest Grove, Hillsboro, and Beaverton School Districts. We also offer leadership and community service opportunities to our students and their families.
I. Become a Mentor for Latina Girls! Chicas Facilitator Assistant Volunteers Needed!
Chicas Facilitator Assistants support the Chicas facilitator in organizing and leading 90 minute after school sessions for Latina youth. Volunteer will be responsible for aiding in the supervision of youth, attendance, snack set-up and distribution, and clean-up of school site. Volunteer will also be required to attend at least one Parent Gathering during the year.
Frequency: 1-2 days a week (October – May). We ask for volunteers to commit to a session for at least one school semester.
Schedule: The schedule will be based on the after-school session the volunteer is helping to facilitate. Our after-school sessions are generally 90 minutes and take place one day each week between 1:30PM – 5:00PM.
II. Help Engage Latino Families in Education! Chicas Youth Development Family Engagement Volunteers Needed
Our Family Engagement Assistants commit to volunteering once every 2-3 months during the school year. Their primary focus is to assist us in the coordination of our Chicas Family Gatherings & Workshops. Volunteers are also responsible for taking attendance, food set-up and distribution, and clean-up after the events. The events our located at schools in Forest Grove, Hillsboro and Beaverton, and generally take place in the evening during the week.
III. Seeking Volunteer Office Assistants for our Chicas Youth Development Program!
Office assistant volunteers help us to plan field trips and other events, and help with general office work including data entry, filing documents, and other duties as assigned by their supervisor. We ask for a commitment of at least one month for this role. The schedule is very flexible, and volunteer work can be completed between 9AM – 3PM Mon- Fri, with a schedule agreed upon by the volunteer and their supervisor.
3. Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization (IRCO): IRCO Refugee & Immigrant Student Empowerment Program: Tutors Needed for Refugee Students
Tutoring and Conversation Clubs for recently arrived refugee and immigrant students take place Monday – Thursday afternoons at David Douglas High School. Tutors provide academic support and assistance, while conversation club leaders facilitate activities and games to help students practice English and build community. All volunteers develop encouraging, stimulating, and productive relationships with the students.

4. Northeast Emergency Food Program: Sacajawea Mobile Pantry Coordinator
Hours: Tuesdays from 10:30am – 1pm throughout the school year
Responsibilities: Load up the NEFP box truck with extra food from the pantry (vegetables, fruit, yogurt, fun snacks, etc). Drive to Sacajawea Head Start (located a block east of NEFP), and allow parents to “shop” from the back of the truck. Distribute food for ~2 hours, leave whatever is left with the school, and drive back to NEFP by 1pm.
Details: NEFP began a mobile pantry the 2015-2016 school year to better support the parents of students at Sacajawea Head Start. We served about 40 families every week throughout the year with the mobile pantry. The Coordinator interacts with the same families every week, and must display some intercultural communication skills. Spanish is a plus.

5. 2nd Edition Resale Shop (Cedar Mill Community Library Association): Acquire valuable retail skills and learn firsthand how a successful non-profit works
GREAT retail experience! An upscale secondhand shop, 2nd Edition Resale Shop is Cedar Mill Library’s permanent fundraiser. Learn to provide friendly, efficient customer service; to present a tidy, welcoming shop with great merchandise; to operate a cash register and credit card reader; to conduct accurate transactions and to represent and benefit a community mainstay, the public library.
The shop is open noon-6pm Mon; 10am-7:30 Tues; 10am-6pm Wed-Fri, 10am-4:30pm Sat, and noon-4:30pm on Sundays. Shifts are 3 hours, once a week for six months, minimum, and all training is provided. Many shifts available, including weekends. Located in Cedar Mill at the intersection of Cornell Rd. and Saltzman.

6. Beaverton School District AVID: Volunteers needed to work with Middle and High School Students!
AVID Volunteer Tutors are needed in all Beaverton middle and high schools for a minimum of one hour a week during the school day. Volunteers are needed in AVID elective classes to facilitate a student led tutorial group of seven or fewer AVID scholars under direct support of the AVID elective teacher. Volunteers can tutor at the school of their choice based on their availability and the school Tutorial schedule (Monday-Friday anytime between 7:45am-2:50pm).

7. El Programa Hispano Catolico

El Programa Hispano Católico in Gresham provides a wide array of social services to low-income Latinos including free tax preparation, providing vulnerable taxpayers a trustworthy alternative to unlicensed tax preparers and to paying to prepare their basic tax returns. Last season our volunteers helped more than 1,000 taxpayers secure over $2 million in refunds. Volunteers do not need prior tax knowledge, we provide the free training!
I. Seeking Spanish-speakers – no experience necessary – to help the low income community!
We are seeking bilingual individuals to volunteer as tax preparers, intake assistants and interpreters 5 hours per week during tax season (January 24th to April 17th). Evening/weekend shifts available. Our tax program is completely volunteer-based—the more volunteers we receive the more low-income taxpayers we are able to help! Orientations provided throughout November and December, free trainings in December and January. Trainings tend to fill up, contact us soon to secure your place. We look forward to hearing from you!
II. Seeking volunteers with tax experience to help the low-income community
By volunteering just five hours a week during tax season as a trained Quality Reviewer you can provide a vital service and in turn an important step towards economic security to those most in need. Quality Reviewers are essential to the success of our program, ensuring high-quality, accurate preparation and service. Spanish is helpful but is not required. Continuing Education (CE) credit is available. Orientations are happening throughout November and December, trainings throughout December and January to fit with varying schedules. 8. Clackamas Service Center: Volunteers Needed – Direct Work to Support Homeless and Hungry
Clackamas Service Center is seeking volunteers to help unhoused and hungry people in Southeast Portland and North Clackamas County access services. We are currently on boarding two new programs that require volunteers – shower services and SNAP outreach services. Volunteers for either program take a leading role in providing the service, ideally for at least six months. We are located at 8800 SE 80th Avenue, one lot north of the Fred Meyer on 82nd and Johnson Creek.

9. The Media Foundation: Sort, Shelve, prioritize prep media donations.
At The Media Foundation, our lifeblood is our volunteers, and we would love to have you on our team! We currently seek volunteers to help us sort, clean, catalogue, shelve and pack books, CDs, DVDs and computer software as they are donated to us. Our environment is fun, calm, and quite library-eque: a whole house filled to the brim with books and CD’s makes for a fun and fascinating setting in which to volunteer!

10. Hollywood Senior Center: Volunteers needed for Music events on Dec 7th & 18th
Volunteer and enjoy some amazing music!
Wednesday, Dec. 7th – we are hosting a musical performance by the New Horizons Big Band from 7:30 to 8:30. I could use a few folks to help with set up and take down. And they get to listen to some amazing music!
Sunday, Dec. 18th – Second Wind Jazz Band, will be performing from 2:00 to 4:00pm. And again, we could use help with set-up and take down.

Groups of Planters Welcome! We love a planting posse! We ask that any group of 5 or more pre-register via our Group Registration Form. We provide gloves, tools and guidance–no tree care experience needed! Be sure to come dressed for the weather: wearing sturdy closed-toe shoes, rain-resistant layers you don’t mind getting dirty, a hat, and get ready to have fun!
