Volunteers of America Oregon: Facilitate positive after school activities for middle school youth
Posted by hannah.cherry
Youth Gambling Prevention (a program of Volunteers of America Oregon) is a community partner with Floyd Light Middle School’s SUN School’s (School’s Uniting Neighborhoods) after school program to disseminate gambling prevention strategies to youth through providing hands-on experiences and positive adult bonding.
Volunteers will play an integral role in facilitating activities for youth, building positive relationships and watching children grow. This is a great opportunity to gain skills in child development, teaching, and counseling. Sample activities include:
- Support staff by working one-on-one and in small groups of students to aid in the completion of provided activities – games and or art projects.
- Set up and break down activities for the day; assist in the implementation and creation of new projects.
- Co-lead field trips to local parks and other outdoor activities for our Kids at Home in the Wild (KaHW!) program.
Please read the time and commitment requirements carefully:
Three month commitment of a weekly shift on Mondays; with the exception of school/VOA Oregon closures.
Activities are from 3:45-5:05 P.M.
Volunteer for one or both of the terms offered below:
- 01/09/17 – 03/20/17, Theme: DIY Art Projects
- 04/17/17 – 06/12/17, Theme: KaHW! Outdoor Field Trips
