PROGRAMS
Volunteers of America Oregon: Support Children in Your Community!

Help support young children for just 3 hours a week! Many families with young children aren’t able to provide the support they so desperately want to give to their children because of a variety of pressures combined with a lack of support. At VOA Oregon’s Family Relief Nursery (FRN), we work to reduce that pressure through providing resources and parent support so the family can stay strong and healthy.

Pair up with a classroom teacher to support an age-specific therapeutic classroom. Learn our unique intervention model, expand the type and depth of activities, provide 1:1 support, and be the adult a young child connects with while they grow and learn.

Shifts available: Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Our Locations:

  • 234 SE 7th Ave., Portland 97214
  • 2609 SE 136th Ave., Portland 97236

Friends of Trees: Help your community select trees for their home

Friends of Trees Tree Caller Volunteers Needed! Join us on Wednesday evenings starting mid-August from 6-8pm to grow greener neighborhoods by calling our ‘treecipients’ and helping them pick out new trees for their neighborhood tree planting. You’ll learn about the different types of trees Friends of Trees plants, and how to help neighbors navigate the FOT website and tree ordering process.

This is a very social volunteer role, great for someone interested in refining their phone calling and customer service skills.

A short orientation is required. And you’ll be asked to commit to at least three Wednesday evenings at our office at 3117 NE MLK Blvd in NE Portland (map). Total time commitment is about 7-10 hours; this is an ongoing role through February.

Ready, Set, Go is an early learning model that brings children (three to five years old) and their adult caregivers together in a rich learning environment where Parent-Child Interactions Groups, Parenting Classes, and Community Engagement are designed to support a smooth transition into Kindergarten and lifelong success. Through concurrent adult caregiver and child education, Ready, Set, Go works to increase the caregiver’s capacity and confidence to enhance prosocial development and age appropriate growth as their child’s “first teacher,” while supporting children’s needs and interests, emphasizing children’s curiosity as a driving force behind programming.

See post for full AmeriCorps Position Description (The position will be filled before the end of August)
