Multnomah County Library’s Summer Reading Program is seeking Summer Reading Leaders!

Multnomah County Library’s Summer Reading is not only a reading incentive program, but the library’s largest teen engagement program. Summer Reading Leaders work closely with teen volunteers to give them a positive learning experience at our neighborhood libraries. A leader’s primary role is to assist with volunteer coordinator and to be a welcoming, supportive presence to our teen volunteers. We are currently recruiting a leader for North Portland Library. this is a great summer opportunity for a teen or young adult! Here is more information and next steps.

The Basics 

  • Stock, organize, and maintain the SR station
  • Train and mentor volunteers to do tasks related to SR including registration, prize distribution, and record-keeping
  • Cover shifts missed by volunteers
  • Contact and schedule volunteers to work open shifts
  • Assist with data entry and other tasks as needed

Special Skills & Qualifications 

  • Minimum age: Junior year in high school or older.
  • Motivated, proactive and able to work independently; responsible and dependable.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor teens from diverse backgrounds
  • Criminal check for those over 18; reference check if under 18

Time Commitment, Training, & Other Info. 

  • Commit 6-12 hours per week on a regular schedule
  • Volunteer from early June through early September
  • Volunteer most of the summer (gone no more than a couple of weeks)

The Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter allows students, faculty, and staff at PCC a more comprehensive look at volunteer needs and opportunities from our community partners.
