Become an Arboretum Naturalist at Hoyt Arboretum!
Arboretum Naturalists are volunteer educators who lead 90-minute field trips for elementary-age students to introduce them to the wonders of nature and the science of trees through fun hands-on activities. Volunteers will learn: best practices for leading field trips, including teaching tips, group management, and engagement activities; basic ecology and botany along with techniques for engaging children outdoors; good communication and public speaking skills.
Two introductory training sessions are scheduled on Tuesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 23 from 10am-12pm and will be limited to 15 participants each. Please apply online at hoytarboretum.org/volunteer.
Hoyt Arboretum’s fall field trip season runs from mid-September through November on Tuesday through Friday mornings. Arboretum Naturalists are encouraged to be available to volunteer for a minimum of 4 field trips per month during the fall season.

About the Organization
Hoyt Arboretum is Portland’s living museum of trees and home to more than 2,000 plant species from around the world. With the help of volunteer Arboretum Naturalists, we are expanding our field trip programming to provide the opportunity for elementary school students from around the Metro area to come to Hoyt Arboretum to learn about trees and their role in the world’s ecosystems.
About the Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter
The Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter allows students, faculty, and staff at PCC a more comprehensive look at volunteer needs and opportunities from our community partners. Our hope is that the newsletter will allow subscribers to stay better informed about community service opportunities in the tri-county areas of Portland, Oregon, as well as non-profit internships and scholarships available locally and nationally.
