Hacienda CDC: Tutors and/or Activities with Low-Income Youth (NE Portland)
Posted by hannah.cherry
Tutors and/or Activities with Low-Income Youth (NE Portland)
We are primarily looking for ongoing tutors who can help youth with math, science, and literacy skills for the school year. We are also looking for activity leaders and assistants for our after-school enrichment program. We could use specific assistance with our soccer program and/or girls group, which focuses on emotional and physical health for adolescent girls.
Our tutoring services run every Monday-Friday, 2:30-6:00, beginning Monday, September 14th, in Baltazar Ortiz Community Center at the intersection of NE Cully & NE Killingsworth. We are especially eager for volunteers who can commit to 7 hours a week but could use all the help we can get.

About the Organization
Hacienda’s mission is to strengthen families by providing affordable housing, home ownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities. As part of our mission we support the K-8 youth of our housing sites by offering them tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment services. We serve primarily Latino and Somali youth, and many of them are first generation immigrants. They are a group with unique challenges, as most students transition between their English speaking schools and their non-English speaking parents.
